Soaring mountain meadows – speckled with crystal-clear lakes – surround Haus Meilinger, in summer. It’s an idyllic sunny getaway, for all ages to enjoy at any pace.
Crisp, clean alpine air is just as good for the energetic adventurer as for those needing rest and relaxation, or a serene, inspiring place for study and remote work.

Hiking and biking...

trails weave up and along the mountain pastures that are not recognisable as winter pistes (ski slopes), but for the telltale network of ski lift poles and dormant stations. There are 280km of hiking trails in the Obertauern region. The mountain heights above Haus Meilinger can be reached from the comfort and ease of a cable car, with the Grünwaldkopf, Hochalm and Kringsalm routes operating from June to September. Strollers, bikes and dogs can ride for free. By the beautiful lakeside of Grünwaldsee is a restaurant with a children’s playground. Pedal boats can be hired on the water.

The panoramic views...

are endlessly glorious. The higher the hike, the greater the reward of a wondrous vista of peaks, lakes and forests as the village of Obertauern sinks into the distant valley basin. Grasses grow thick and rich, with grazing cows, horses and alpacas the unobtrusive seasonal presence on the slopes. The gentle tinkling of their bells and the trickling streams are the main sounds that carry on the mild breeze.

“Summer was a completely different holiday at Haus Meilinger, compared to winter, and we really loved the new experience. There are lots of small lakes and ponds that are created by melting snow and you see all the landscapes from a completely new perspective. We loved hiking, it was very beautiful to experience. We came across a small river and have the memory of just lying in it with our two dogs, with big smiles and laughter. The water was freezing but it was extremely refreshing. Obertauern in summer is also a great location to work remotely without any distraction." – Angelo

“Obertauern as a summer destination is highly underrated – it is so, so nice. I really, really love going to Haus Meilinger with a small friend group in summer where we can be in nature and have long talks into the night with nice food and wine. In summer there are lots of sports, such as running at altitude – which is quite the challenge. Or hiking in the mountains – there are beautiful crystal-clear lakes. No one else is there, you can jump in. Our dogs are always by our side – as dogs are welcomed guests at Haus Meilinger too.

Obertauern in summer has been a place I’ve gone when I’ve needed really calm space. I’ve taken all my documents there while on my university study period. With my dog by my side, I took a big blanket and sat out in the mountain sunshine in the middle of nowhere - every day for two weeks - and studied. It was really, really good for me to concentrate there, read my textbooks and prepare for exams.” – Lana
